Abstract: The rates of methane oxidation at a catalytic silver electrode in contact with solid oxide electrolyte were studied as functions of cathodic and anodic polarization of the electrode. It was shown that the complete oxidation of methane is accelerated by electrochemical transport of oxygen to the reaction zone and by its elimination from this zone, as compared to the reaction occurring at open cell circuit. Possible reasons for this effect were discussed.
