Abstract: The atomic ratios Mo/P = lll and I2/l were determined by the 3lP NMR method in two water-soluble phases formed on heating H3PMo12O40 in the temperature range 400 - 47O oC and identified as (MoO)2P2O7 and [PMo12O39-J[PMo12O38+], respectively. The 31P NMR spectrum from a solution of the 12/1 phase exhibited a signal with 6 = -24.3 ppm assigned to a "heteropolycation" PMo12O38+. Upon heating at 500 - 700 oC, a single water-soluble phase 1/1 and a low-soluble MoO3 are retained in the solution.
