Abstract: The effects of the conditions of sol coagulation and hydrogel drying on the formation of xerogel surface were studied. The surface area depended on Na+ concentration in the sol and on moisture content changes taking place during the drying process. The decrease of the surface area obsd. during the drying process was due to shrinking of the areas of contact between the globules.
