Abstract: The heat treatment or hydrogenation of Zr(C3H5)​4 deposited on silica gel was attended by the formation of Zr hydrides. The hydrides reacted with ethylene during polymerisation forming reactive propagation sites of the type (SiO)​2ZrHCH2Me.
