Surface acidic centers of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, and Fe3+ phosphates were detected by electronic and ir spectrophotometry of adsorption of anthraquinone, benzalacetophenone, diphenylcarbinol, triphenylcarbinol, acetonitrile, and pyridine. The acidic strength of the protonic and aprotic acid centers decreased with the cation of the phosphates in the order Fe3+ ≃ Mg2+ > Ca2+ > Sr2+ ≃ Ba2+. The absorption maxs. of the adsorbed bases are given. The phosphates are catalysts.
