Abstract: The method of measuring electrode potentials showed that the degree of oxidation of the surface of Mn oxides (β-MnO2, β-Mn2O3, β-Mn3O4, MnO) changes abruptly in H2O2. Moreover, rearrangement of the crystal structure of the layer near the surface occurs. During prolonged treatment of the H2O2 for all the oxides, an identical steady-state condition of the surface was attained, characterized by the same value of electrode potential. Decomposition of the H2O2 includes a stage of catalyst oxidation-reduction. In the unsteady-state region, a significant effect on the process is shown by the diffusion equalization of the compositions of the surface and bulk oxides.
