Abstract: MeCHO formation by the title reaction at 30° in dioxane containing aq. CF3CO2H was a 2nd-order process with rate const. 4.8 × 10-8 mol L-1 min-1. Ph3PO was also formed (rate const. 6.3 × 10-6) under these conditions, and added Co and LiH were converted to CO2 and LiOH, resp. A coordination mechanism was proposed.
