Abstract: The catalysts (M + Pt)​/SiO2, M​/SiO2, and Pt-​SiO2, where M = Mo, W, or Re, were obtained from metal org. and alkoxide compds. and studied by an x-​ray photoelectron spectroscopic method. The Mo, W, and Re in these reduced catalysts have a nonmetallic set of electronic states, whereas Re and Pt-​Re catalysts prepd. by similar redn. after impregnation with inorg. metal compds. lead to metallic Re. In the case of (M + Pt)​/SiO2, the Pt atoms are localized on the surface compds. of low-​valent ions of the 2nd element, which leads to a significant increase of the dispersion of the deposited Pt.
