Abstract: By quenching the polymerization with radioactive carbon monoxide, the number of active centers and the propagation rate constant (Kp) have been determined for ethylene polymerization in the presence of highly active titanium catalysts supported on magnesium compounds. The value Kp=(1.2±0.3)×104 l/mol sec approaches that for conventional Ziegler catalysts. The high activity of the supported catalysts is due to the increased number of propagation centers which, in highly active catalysts, reaches 0.4 mol/mol Ti.
