Abstract:
The effect of chromium content on Cr2O3/Al2O3 catalyst activity of tetrachloroethylene hydrofluorination to pentafluoroethane (Freon R-125) is studied. Catalysts containing 15-95 wt % chromium oxide (on Cr2O3 basis) were prepared by the addition of a mixture of CrCl3 and AlCl3 solutions to a solution of ammonia. It is shown that catalytic activity linearly depends on the chromium content of the catalyst. A hydrofluorination scheme including main product and by-products formation routes is deduced from the observed dependences of particular products selectivity.
