Abstract: Chapter 4 surveys the progress made in the synthesis of mesoporous transition-metal-containing silicates, both amorphous and well-ordered. The first part describes different strategies for the preparation of such materials as well as their physicochemical characterization. Several approaches elaborated in the last years to create hydrothermally stable mesoporous metal-silicates are in the focus. The second part is devoted to catalytic liquid-phase oxidation processes over mesoporous metal-silicates, with special attention drawn to the structure/activity/selectivity relationships and mechanistic aspects of the oxidation reactions. A special sub-chapter is devoted to the critical analysis of the results published so far in the literature concerning stability of mesoporous metal-silicate catalysts. Deactivation mechanisms are also addressed here. Discussion on the scope and limitations of such materials in liquid-phase oxidations closes the chapter.
