Abstract: A study has been made of the oxidation of ethylene, with the formation of acetaldehyde, by aqueous solutions of palladium (II) perchlorate and 1,2-napthoquinone- 4- sulfonic acid (NQSA). On the basis of the amounts of ethylene absorbed at various stages of the reaction, it is suggested that the oxidation catalyst is the palladium (O) catalyst Pd (C2H4) (NQSA)n.
