Abstract: The effect of microchannel plates (MCP) design on the microreactor efficiency in the reaction of steam reforming of methanol (SRM) was studied. The experiments were performed using a cylinder microreactor with disk-type MCP and a microreactor with rectangular MCP supplied with parallel slot channels with Cu/ZnO catalyst. The highest efficiency of the SRM was obtained in microreactor with the rectangular MCP containing slot channels. The study of the influence of the microchannels' cross-section on the SRM efficiency revealed that the increase of the channel depth resulted in the decrease of hydrogen production. The highest efficiency of the microreactor was exhibited for the plates with microchannels of 0.2 mm in depth. At 266°C and 90% of the methanol conversion, the specific hydrogen production (the production of hydrogen/1 cc of the MCP volume) was 2.3 L/(hr-cc). This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 231st ACS National Meeting (Atlanta, GA 3/26-30/2006).
