In this paper, the current state of the art on a new adsorptive cycle (the so-called "Heat from Cold" or HeCol), recently suggested for upgrading the ambient heat [ ], is considered. Here we analyze its second law efficiency and dynamics of the regeneration and heat production stages. Theoretical requirements to an adsorbent optimal for this cycle from both thermodynamic and kinetic points of view are formulated in terms of the Dubinin-Polanyi adsorption potential. New composite sorbents on the base of calcium chloride and bromide confined to the silica mesopores are synthesized and studied keeping in mind their application in the HeCol cycle. Finally, the first HeCol prototype is build and tested in order to prove the feasibility of the HeCol concept. The new cycle can be interesting for countries with cold climate, and especially for the Arctic zone.
