Abstract: A series of catalysts based on mixed Mn-Zr oxides have been prepared by coprecipitation of nitrates. At low Mn/Zr ratios, the catalysts are single-phase solid solutions (MnyZr1-yO2) based on a ZrO2 structure. An increase in the Mn content leads to an increase in the number of Mn cations in the structure of the solid solutions, but a part of manganese form Mn2O3 and Mn3O4 in crystalline and amorphous states. Reduction of these catalysts with hydrogen was studied by a TPR, in situ XRD, and XPS. The reduction of the solid solutions proceeds via two stages. During the first stage, between 100 and 500oC, Mn cations incorporated into MnyZr1-yO2-δ undergo partial reduction. During the second stage, at temperatures between 500 and 700oC, Mn cations segregate on the surface of the solid solution. In the catalysts with high Mn/Zr ratios, the reduction of manganese oxide was observed: Mn2O3 → Mn3O4 → MnO
