Abstract: Propagation rate const. (Kp) for polymn. of ethylene and propylene in presence of titanium dichloride catalyst was 1 .tim. 104 l./mole sec and 1 .tim. 102 l./mole sec, resp., the value of Kp being approx. the same for isotactic or atactic additions. On addition of chlorodiethylaluminum the polymerization rate in the presence of TiCl2 decreased for both monomers due to decrease of the no. of propagation centers at const. Kp. Isotacticity of propylene increased in the presence of AlEt2Cl because of the reduced rate of atactic polymn. suggesting that isotactic polymn. centers were formed without participation of an Al compound.
