Abstract: Self-oscillation was studied in the heterogeneous catalytic reaction rate due to H oxidn. on Ni and Pt. The study was made in a flow reactor under isothermal conditions with metallic wires or foils as catalysts. During the reaction on Ni and Pt foils, the contact potential difference was measured by the vibrating condenser method. The waveform and frequency of oscillations in the reaction rate were similar to oscillations in the contact potential difference. Self-oscillations were caused by the catalytic mechanism of interaction between H and O and not by thermokinetic or hydrodyanmic effects. A math. model for self-oscillations is suggested.
