Abstract:
In the Siberian SR center, low-cost rotary devices based on principles of wave strainfriction (WSF) drive are developed, which can provide the rotary motion feedthrough into vacuum. Some features of these WSF-reducers and examples of their application in elements of beam-line optics at SSRC are reported. The typical reduction factor is ~3000; it depends on a ratio of the sizes of flexible and rigid rings of the reducer, and also on deformation forces at the place of contact of these rings (i.e. on the strain wave amplitude); this allows one to do the fine adjustment of this factor [1]. Using a stepping motor FL57STH39 with the h-step (half-step mode) of 0.45 degree, one can have the output step of a reducer as small as ~ 0.3", and even smaller. WSF-reducers are manufactured in two versions shown on Fig. 1: (a) non vacuum version; (b) vacuum package (it allows entering rotation into vacuum). Reducers of the first type will be combined with analyzer crystals for the new station at the Beam-line 6-top. The reducer of the second, vacuum sort will be used in the single-crystal drum-type monochromator (where fast change of crystals is possible) on the BL6-top at SSRC; after monochromator, this beam-line goes upwards, and the station 6-top will be situated on the upper floor. The similar reducer (feeding rotation into vacuum) is used in the fine tuning unit of HV double-crystal monochromator [2], Fig. 1c, made for a beam-line modernization at SSRC. Recently the first beam-tests of this DC-mono have been carried out using ionization chamber (24-bit ADCs); tests have confirmed that the crystals can be matched/detuned with accuracy ~0.02" [the additional factor is provided by geometry (an arm ratio) of fine tuning unit]. We are going to present also first results of accuracy testing of WSF-reducers (both variants) using encoder LIR-1170A which provides accuracy of 0.0001 degree, or 0.36".
