Abstract: Oxidation of carbon black gasified by carbon dioxide in the ozone-air medium was studied. An increase in gasification degree of carbon black was shown to inhibit its oxidation by ozone, which is related to the removal of the readily oxidizable amorphous component of carbon nanoglobule. It was found that the pH of an aqueous suspension of gasified carbon black increases at the initial stage of its oxidation, which may be caused by the presence of basic ash components or by the π-basicity of the lateral faces of graphene crystallites. The functional composition of oxidized gasified furnace carbon black N339 is close to that of channel K354; so N339 can be recommended as a substitute for channel carbon black in the formulations of special-purpose rubbers. © 2019 Author(s).
