Abstract: Multicomponent VMoNbTe oxide catalysts are the most promising in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene. Despite a high scientific attention, the problem of instability of this catalyst under reducing conditions remains unresolved. In this work, the effect of VMoNbTe modification by phosphorus, stibium and bismuth on the catalytic stability of the active M1 phase was studied. XRD and XPS data showed that due to homogeneous distribution in the bulk, introduction of Bi and Sb resulted in decrease of M1 phase content. Modification by P had less effect on the phase composition due to its surface enrichment. XPS showed the phosphate-like environment for phosphorus species, oxidized Sb species in form of Sb3+, or Sb5+, and Bi3+ state for the introduced cations. The catalytic stability tests were performed using developed express-test that involves high-temperature (up to 480°C) treatment in the reaction mixture with different ethane/oxygen ratio. The additives Bi and P have a positive effect on the stability of the catalyst, reducing the loss of catalytic characteristics when operating under severe reducing conditions.
