Abstract:
Applications of spin probes for characterization of diamagnetic active sites on the surface of oxide catalysts by EPR are discussed. The main goal of these studies is to develop spin probe techniques for characterization of surface active sites that account for the catalytic activity of oxide catalysts. Donor molecules with different ionization potentials were used for characterization of electron-acceptor sites with different strengths. Aromatic nitro compounds were used for characterization of electron-donor sites. An original approach was developed for characterization of operating catalysts by EPR that can be used to monitor changes in the concentration of active sites that can be characterized by EPR using spin probes on the surface during any catalytic reaction. The results obtained using this method indicate that weak electronacceptor sites tested using perylene can be the active sites accounting for 1-chlorobutane dehydrochlorination in the active state of the catalysts.
