Abstract: Interaction between the water absorption ability of aluminium oxide-based sorbents and their phase composition, acid-base properties of the surface and textural characteristics has been analysed. Alumina desiccants were synthesized with centrifugal-thermal activation of gibbsite following its subsequent hydration under mild conditions. It was demonstrated that multi-cycle adsorptionregeneration of samples under realistic conditions results in structural transformations, changes of acidity of their surfaces and water absorption ability. The modification of pseudoboehmite with alkali ions leads to the increase of surface basicity and dynamic capacity of adsorbents relating to water vapours. There were presented equations describing adsorption and desorption processes taking place during water vapour absorption with the studied materials.
