Solid oxide full cells (SOFC) are considered as an alternative to conventional electric power generation due to their high efficiency, simple system design and multi-fuel capability [1]. The possibility of hydrocarbons (HC) fuel oxidation directly on the anode is another attractive
advantage of such systems. The main problems of SOFC based on well-known electrolytes - yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) are high (~1000ºC) operating temperatures required to ensure good ionic conductivity of YSZ and prevent coking of the Ni-based anodes [1-3]. The decrease of the operation temperature to 600-800˚C allows to prevent premature ageing of the cell components and to exclude the use of expensive interconnect materials. To solve these problems, the new electrolyte materials with a high oxide ion conductivity at intermediate
temperatures (IT) and compatible electrode materials of high catalytic and electrochemical performances have to be designed.
Recently, apatite-type lanthanum silicates (ATLS) have attracted a considerable attention as alternative oxide ion conductors due to their high conductivity at IT [1-2]. However, long sintering cycles at high temperatures are required for their synthesis via traditional ceramic
route. In the present work, the results on the synthesis of ATLS by alternative lowtemperature methods and the catalytic activity of unpromoted Ni/ATLS anodes and ones comprised of complex oxides in steam reforming of methane (SR) are presented.
