Abstract: The adsorption mechanism of Pt(II) and Pt(IV) chloride complexes on γ-Al2O3 modified by mineral acids was studied. As shown by 195Pt NMR and IR spectroscopies, the adsorption on supports pretreated with HBr or HNCS follows predominantly ligand substitution. In this case, the support surface has bridging ligands that are coordinatively bound to Al atoms. The adsorption on γ-Al2O3 modified by HClO4 or HF occurs by ion exchange.
