Abstract: The local environment of a novel group of americium (Am3+) complexes with calix[4]arene bearing carbamoylmethylphosphine oxide moieties on the upper rim has been investigated by X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The complexes were obtained by the extraction of americium from aqueous nitric or 2-(1-adamantyl)sulfoacetic acids with the 1,2-dichloroethane solution of this ligand. The correlation of the structures of the obtained complexes with americium distribution coefficients in the corresponding extraction systems is revealed.
