В главе рассматривается прогресс в области каталитического С-Н окисления в присутствии катализаторов на основе комплексов марганца, достигнутый за последние 30 лет.
In nature, oxidation processes, including oxidations of various C–H groups of organic molecules, are efficiently and selectively performed by heme and non-heme metalloenzymes under mild conditions. Unsurprisingly, the state-of-the-art development of metal-based catalyst systems, capable of selectively activating aliphatic CH bonds of complex organic molecules with formation of new CO bonds, is focused to a large degree on the so-called biomimetic approach, mimicking the catalytic properties of naturally occurring metalloenzymes with synthetic metal complexes. Since the early 1990s, iron and manganese complexes, stabilized by chelating ligands, have provided the majority of synthetic models of natural oxygenases, as well as most of the catalysts holding practical promise. To date, manganese-based bioinspired C–H oxygenation catalysts occupy a privileged position, in many cases exhibiting superior catalytic properties to their iron counterparts. Moreover, conducting some challenging processes, such as enantioselective C–H oxidations or C–H oxidations with unusual selectivity, based on enzyme-like substrate recognition, has so far been enabled only by manganese catalysts. This chapter summarizes the progress of C–H oxidations, mediated by manganese-based complexes, achieved in the last 30 years, focusing mainly on synthetic aspects of their catalytic reactivity.
