Abstract: A study is performed of how the nature of the electrolyte (solutions of NaOH, NaCl, Na2Sn + NaCl, C2H5OH + C2H5ONa, and Na2S + Na2SO3) affects the rate of hydrogen evolution and the short-circuit current density over photocatalysts Cd0.8Zn0.2S and 1% CuS/Cd0.8Zn0.2S. Nonzero values of the target characteristics of photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical experiments are obtained in a water–alcohol solution of alkali and solutions of sodium sulfide and sodium sulfite. The Na2S + Na2SO3 system is studied for changes in target characteristics arising from variations in the concentration of individual salts qualitative similarity was shown between changes in the rate of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and the short-circuit current density was shown. A mathematical equation describing the short-circuit current density as a function of the concentrations of sodium sodium sulfide and sodium sulfite is proposed for the first time.
