Abstract: A boron-doped carbon nanomaterial, a variant of spherical few-layer graphene, is prepared according to the original method. The transformation of boron-containing centers in the carbon nanomaterial after high-temperature calcination in an inert atmosphere is studied using a number of physical methods. Increasing the calcination temperature from 800 °C to 1000 °C does not affect the boron concentration in the sample. However, heating the sample above 1000 °C affects the boron state significantly: the boron peak (Eb ∼ 193.1 eV) shifts towards lower binding energies and new states appear. The binding energy of the main boron peak after the calcination is to ∼192.1 eV, which is typical for the C–B–O bond. The low-energy shoulder (Eb ∼ 190.2 eV) is characteristic for the carbon-bonded boron (B–C). These data agree with the fact that the intensity of the B–O component in the O 1s peak decreases at 1000 °C. Thus, the calcination of the carbon nanomaterial at 1000 °C leads to the following reduction of boron-containing functional groups: C–B–O2 → C–B–O → C–B.
