Abstract:
Carbon supported precious metal catalysts, mainly platinum and its alloys, are widely used in cathodes of the proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Since carbon forms the “skeleton” of the catalytic layer of an electrode, its textural as well as physicochemical properties determine to a large extent the structure and transport properties of the layer and, therefore, affect its performance.
