Abstract: This chapter is devoted to nitrous oxide. Extensive studies in the field carried out during the two last decades have uncovered the great potential of this remarkable oxygen donor. Beside catalytic reactions, we shall discuss also a very interesting type of thermal oxidation by N2O to draw the attention of the catalytic community to this new field of oxidation chemistry that is not covered yet by catalysis. This chapter contains sections titled: Introduction Molecular Structure and Physical Properties of Nitrous Oxide Catalytic Oxidation by Nitrous Oxide in the Gas Phase Catalytic Oxidation by N2O in the Liquid Phase Non‐Catalytic Oxidations by N2O Economic Aspects of N2O as Oxidant Conclusion References
