Реферат:
Mechanistically, the formation and growth of biological poorly ordered nm-sized aggregates or spherically shaped nanoparticles (BNPs) may occur via (i) association of molecules with aggregates or BNPs and redistribution of molecules forming aggregates or BNPs and (ii) association of aggregates or BNPs. In the context of biophysics, the former pathway has been analysed theoretically in numerous studies, whereas the latter pathway has not attracted attention. Herein, focusing on the latter pathway, I have scrutinized the kinetics of aggregation of spherical fully filled or vesicular BNPs without and with supply of molecules associating with BNPs so that the total mass of BNPs is constant or increase, respectively. After fusion of BNPs, the shape of newly formed BNPs is considered to remain spherical. Various scenarios of aggregation include kinetically and/or diffusion-limited association of BNPs and kinetically and/or diffusion-limited association of molecules with BNPs. The kinetics have been described analytically in terms of the dependence of concentration and average size of BNPs on time. Asymptotically, the kinetics are usually of the power-law type. Sometimes, however, the kinetics are exponential. In addition, I have scrutinized the diffusion-limited ligand–receptor mediated attachment of BNPs to the support (e.g., to a supported lipid bilayer) in the limit of small number of ligands per BNP and small concentration of ligands at the support. The latter analysis allows one to understand the dependence of the attachment and detachment rate constants on the corresponding parameters. Potential applications of the results obtained are indicated.
