Abstract: Ionogels representing gels based on ionic liquids (ILs) are of great interest as adsorbent materials believed to have great potential for CO2 capture. However, there is limited information regarding the influence of the network matrix peculiarities on CO2 sorption by ionogels. Both in situ attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) and FTIR imaging spectroscopy have been applied to investigate the influence of the chemical nature and the structure of the ionogel support matrix on the spectral characteristics of sorbed CO2. A range of ionogels has been prepared, and the distribution of the IL on the matrix surface has been considered. An analysis of the sorbed CO2 spectra is given, with special attention paid to side processes occurring during sorption. It has been shown that textural properties of the support matrix have a greater impact than the chemical nature in terms of CO2 sorption.
