Abstract: Under consideration is a continuous process for synthesis of nanofibrous carbon from methane in the presence of 90 wt % Ni–Al2O3 catalyst in a reactor with ideal mixing of catalyst particles and gas, where the carbonized material can be selectively discharged from the reactor owing to the property of the catalyst particles to enlarge in size with an increase in the carbon loading thereon. A calculation procedure is suggested for the main process parameters. It is shown that there exists the optimal catalyst consumption at a fixed methane consumption that provides the maximal carbon yield. The specific carbon yield is close to the specific carbon yield obtained in the batch process in an identical type reactor.
