Abstract:
A rapid and reasonably simple UV spectrophotometric method for determining the concentration of acid and basic sites of different strength by direct titration of the surface-active species with weak acids and bases with different values of pKa is described. The concentration of surface-active sites (expressed in μmole/m2) is determined by the amount of adsorption of the corresponding titrant under conditions of formation of a monolayer (a plateau on the adsorption isotherms). The method is tested on catalyst carriers prepared from aluminum oxides and titanium oxides of different texture characteristics and chemical nature.
