Abstract: The present work reports the results of comparative study of alumina-supported bifunctional СuO-CeO2 and СuO-ZnO catalyst in DMM SR to hydrogen-rich gas to be used for fuel cell feeding. The catalysts were characterized by BET, TPR, XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, HRTEM, EDX and HAADF-STEM techniques. Based on the data obtained, it is shown that the catalytic performance of CuO-CeO2/gamma-Al2O3 and CuO-ZnO/gamma-Al2O3 in DMM SR is associated with the gamma-Al2O3 acid sites and alumina-supported coppercerium/zinc oxide species, which are responsible for, respectively, DMM hydration and methanol/formaldehyde SR. Bifunctional CuO-CeO2/gamma-Al2O3 and CuO-ZnO/gamma-Al2O3 catalysts containing on their surface both acidic and copper-based sites are active and selective for DMM SR to hydrogen-rich gas with low (1 vol.%) CO content. These catalysts provide for 100% DMM conversion with hydrogen productivity of ~16 L H2/gcat·h at GHSV = 10000 h-1 and T = 300oC.
