Abstract:
Active component of 1%Pd/Al2IO3 catalysts in CH4 oxidation have been studied using in-situ XPS and mass-spectrometry. Samples with close particle size (4-5 nm) but different initial state of Pd (metal or oxidic) were chosen to reveal the state of active component under the reaction conditions. It was shown that mixed metal-oxide state of Pd characterized by Eb = 335.8 eV forms on the surface of samples under reaction conditions (O2 / CH4 = 4/1, P = 0.02 mbar, T = 430 oC) independently of the initial state of Pd in as prepared samples. Ratio between Pd0 and PdO therein depends on both temperature and O2 to CH4 ratio in the reaction mixture.
