Abstract: NSR catalysts are used for nitrogen oxides neutralization in exhaust gases by storage in the form of nitrites and nitrates with following reduction to nitrogen. In this paper we studied the interaction of model NSR-systems BaO/MO2 and Pt-BaO/MO2 (M = TiO2, ZrO2, TiO2-ZrO2) with NO2 using XPS. NSR samples were prepared in the form of thin films (10-15 nm) of supporting material on FeCrAlloy substrates with BaO and Pt deposited on the supports. Treatment in NO2 produced by lead nitrate decomposition was performed at pressure of 3 × 10-6 mbar and a sample kept at room temperature. NSR samples react with NO2 to form successively barium nitrite and nitrate. At that, two new states of platinum are formed: metallic particles with dissolved oxygen and platinum oxide PtO2. After the annealing in vacuum at 500ºC, Pt particles become larger that makes their oxidation more difficult
