Abstract:
To intensify the process in fine chemical synthesis microfluids technologies were recently developed. The selective hydrogenation of methylbutynol in methanol on Pd25Zn75/TiO2 and Pd/TiO2 thin films has previously been investigated in the capillary microreactors with diameter 250 μm1. Capillary microreactors allowed to overcome the limitation by interphase mass transfer and to improve the selectivity to desired product by precise control of liquid residence time2. To perform hydrogenations in microreactor, titania films can be recently prepared via evaporation induced self-assembly1,2. Limitations of pure titania materials are their sensitivity to moisture and low thermal stability at high temperature activation. Recently Ce-doped titania systems has been proposed for the enhancement chemical and thermal stability of titania coating3.
In this paper we report on a comparative study on the catalytic activity and selectivity of Pd and Pd80Zn20 particles embedded onto Ce-doped and pure titania in the hydrogenation of 2-methyl-3-butyne-2-ol in microcapillary reactor and in a stirred reactor at 5 bar and 333 K. The effect of the 2-methyl-3-butyne-2-ol concentration on catalytic activity and selectivity was studied in microcapillary reactor.
