Abstract:
Development of fuel cells requires creation of compact hydrogen generators. A solution to this problem is the use of solid hydrogen storage materials based on NaBH4 and NH3BH3. It was shown that modification of the hydrides by compounds of iron-subgroup metals and optimization of NH3BH3 hydrothermolysis and NaBH4 hydrolysis improve the efficiency of hydrogen generation. It was found that catalytic action of transition metal compounds is a result of their reduction in the hydride medium to produce a nanosized catalytically active phase. The in situ formed XRD-amorphous cobalt nanoparticles of core-shell structure showed the presence of a residual magnetization indicating that there were small clusters of a ferromagnetic phase. EXAFS and X-ray analysis indicated the presence of cobalt tetramers separated by distances of 5.8 Å. A quantum-chemical model has been proposed for the first time explaining stabilization of ferromagnetic metal clusters in the amorphous nanoparticle.
