Abstract:
The present work is devoted to the effect of hierarchical macro-mesoporous structure on catalyst activity and stability in heavy oil hydroprocessing. A facile “hard” template method has been applied to the preparation of materials with narrow bimodal pore size distribution, high macropore volume, sufficient specific surface area and mechanical strength. The catalysts have been tested in the consecutive three-stage hydroprocessing of heavy Tatar oil: I stage – metal and asphaltene removal over a “guard-type” catalyst Al2O3 , II stage – S removal over a hydrotreating NiMoS/Al2O3 catalyst, III stage – hydrocracking and isomerization over NiMoS/Al2O3-ZSM-5 catalyst modified with zeolite as an acidic additive. Developed hierarchical texture is found to greatly improve the catalyst stability against metal and asphaltene deposition, as well as to increase hydrocracking activity of NiMoS/Al2O3 catalysts, especially those modified with zeolite as an acidic additive.
