Abstract: The influence of palladium particles size, the reaction temperature and Pt:Pd ratio on the activity and stability of Pd-Pt/Al2O3 catalysts was revealed. XPS experiments were conducted to obtain the information about the changes of palladium and platinum charge state at the surface of the catalyst before (fresh) and after (aged) the reaction. It was shown that in methane total oxidation reaction (CH4 1%, O2 5%, H2O 0-5%, He as a balance) TOF values rises with palladium particles size. The redistribution of palladium and platinum providing an optimal Pt:Pd value at the surface of the aged catalysts was detected. It was found that the degree of redistribution is dependent on initial Pd:Pt ratio in the fresh sample. The catalyst with an optimal Pt:Pd ratio and dispersion of Pd particles demonstrates the highest activity and stability among all the samples studied.
