Abstract:
Modified Pt alumina supported catalysts are widely used for alkane dehydrogenation processes. The introduction of modifiers such as tin increase significantly the selectivity and catalyst lifetime, but it does not completely suppress coke formation and sintering of the active component. A remarkable decrease in propane conversion was observed during the process performed at high temperatures. Typically, oxidative treatments of spent catalysts in the chlorine-containing air media are applied to restore its catalytic activity. In the present study an attempt has been made to regenerate platinum-tin dehydrogenation catalyst using chlorine-free conditions. It was clearly shown that the oxidative treatment with chlorine-free air or oxygen in the temperature range of 550 ÷ 600 °C allow one to turn activity of spent catalyst towards that of fresh one. This result agrees well with CO pulse chemisorption data: Pt dispersion notably increases after oxidative treatment.
