Abstract:
The laser ablation in liquids was used to prepare Pt/CeO2 catalysts. According to XRD and TEM data the type of liquids used for ablation affects on Pt particles size. The preparation procedure affects to the low temperature activity of catalysts in CO oxidation. Pt/CeO2 catalysts prepared from water solutions have no low-temperature activity, while samples obtained in alcohol show excellent activity in CO oxidation even at 0°C. After samples calcination at 450°C and 600°C the CO conversion is more than 40% and 25%, respectively. According to the XPS data, during calcination at 450°C and 600°C metallic platinum transforms to the ionic states Pt2+ and Pt4+. These ionic states could not be attributed to the PtO or PtO2 oxides. The most probable interpretation for ionic platinum is PtCeOx solid solution formation. The possible mechanisms of solid solution formation are discussed.
