Abstract: Disclosure of origin of hysteresis in Hg intrusion/ extrusion experiments is the key for understanding of mercury porometry method applicability. Several possible reasons for this phenomenon are discussed in the literature, including: a) contact angle and surface tension variations, b) ”Hg thermometer” effect of mercury trapping beyond narrow pore throats, c) porous material compressibility, etc. All mentioned reasons might have effect Hg intrusion/ extrusion hysteresis. We present here our study of possible compressibility of SBA-15 materials.
