The title catalyst consists of 0.6-14% rhenium oxide, 0.33-7.93% manganese dioxide, 0.4-4.8% tetraethyllead, with the remainder being aluminum oxide support. The catalyst is prepd. by soaking the support in an aq. ammonium perrhenate soln., drying and calcining at 500-580°, and treating this with Et4Pb in pentane. The support is pretreated by soaking in an aq. soln. of a Mn compd., preferably the chloride, sulfate, or nitrate, followed by drying and calcining at 500-580°.
