Alkene iodohydrins were prepd. by treating an olefin (C2H4, C3H6, butene, 1-hexene) with an iodine-contg. compd. (I2 or NaI or their mixt.) in aq. acid soln. at 90-100°/1-2 atm with catalyst 0.02-0.53 mol/L CuCl, Fe(CO2Ph)3, H6[PMo9V3O40], H7[PMo8V4O40], H9[PMo6V6O40], O2, or H10[PMO5V7O40] in an oxygen atm.
