The yield of the title compds. from the HNO3 nitration of 4,4'-diacetamidodiphenyl ether (I) was improved by nitrating with 70% HNO3 at 20-35° to give the dinitro deriv. and with ≤23% HNO3 at 0-20° to form the mononitro deriv.; an HNO3:I ratio of 10-50 (sic) was used in the presence of a Pd-complex catalyst.
