PURPOSE: A catalyst for purifying terephthalic acid is important to purify terephthalic acid that is used in synthesis of polyester polymer and copolymer for textile fiber. Thereby, terephthalic acid having less impurities such as p-CBA, is purified CONSTITUTION: A catalyst for purifying terephthalic acid includes palladium deposited on carbon materials or crystallites of palladium and metals on periodic table VII. The carbon material has meso-pores having mean value of 40-400 Angstrom, The crystallites are distributed at a distance within 1-30% of radius from outer surface of a particle of the carbon materials. The catalyst contains crystallites of palladium and rhodium, palladium and rhuthenium or palladium and platinum.
