Abstract:
It is shown that the application of the theory of the activated complex makes it possible to write kinetic equations in the ''thermodynamic'' form with the entire separation of the parameters corresponding to the thermodynamic state of the reagents (so-called thermodynamic heads that are proportional to the concentration of the reagents and depend exponentially on their chemical potentials) and the transition state (permeability of the activation barrier). In several cases, the use of the thermodynamic heads of reagents (or their groups) in kinetic equations instead of normal concentrations simplifies dramatically the analysis of kinetic schemes due to a decrease in the formal order of elementary reactions to the first order and facilitates understanding of the physical meaning of the direction of the process and such kinetic ideas as a limiting stage of the reaction. The advantages of the suggested form of writing are especially pronounced for steady states of chemically nonequilibrium systems, When a kinetic scheme contains independent groups of intermediate components, the symmetry of the thermodynamic form of kinetic equations relative to the flows corresponding to the forward and backward reactions makes it possible to develop a functional that describes the evolution of the chemically nonequilibrium system to the stationary state, including the case when the system is far from the thermodynamic equilibrium.
