Abstract:
Aqueous solutions of sodium and potassium salts of the [ZW10O36]n- heteropolyanions, where Z is La3+-Er3+, Ce4+, Th4+, or U4+, were studied by the 17O and 183W NMR methods. Heteropolyanions in aqueous solutions are inert on the NMR time scale (1-100 ms). The coordination sphere of Z comprises eight oxygen atoms of the oxotungstate ligands, as in the crystal state. The character of the lanthanide-induced paramagnetic shifts (LIS) is determined for all of the atoms in a heteropolyanion: the contact contribution to the LIS predominates for the O and W atoms nearest to Z, the dipole contribution predominates for the bridging W-O-W and internal O atoms, and the dipole and contact contributions are comparable for the remaining atoms. The chemical shifts depend both on the magnetic properties of the lanthanide and on the structural rearrangements in the heteropolyanion. The 17O NMR line width in the heteropolyanions studied (except for the one containing gadolinium) is determined by the quadrupolar mechanism of nuclear magnetic relaxation. © 1996 MAEe cyrillic signK Hayκa/Interperiodica Publishing.
